“I Love the Smell of Napalm
in the Morning!”

When Robert Duvall, as Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore first spoke those lines after the most massive explosion in motion picture history, up to date!

war is a drug.

I LOVE this movie. I watched the commentary on the extra crap disc, and everything in the movie is stuff that happened to the producer or he saw happen to other soldiers during the time that he was a correspondent embedded with Army Combat Engineers in Iraq. (I think.)

When you watch, just remember they carry at least 70 lbs of gear in 120 heat with the smell of sweat and death all around. To these, add that they know they’ll have “contact”. Enjoy your Freedom thanks to them, our troops.

I think it’s a understatement to say I’m pretty overwhelmed right now.
$3,975 dollars in pledges in less than one day (on only 35 backers…my god).
I just hope people don’t see that I’ve reached my goal and decide not to pledge or whatever.
Let me reiterate - I’m still using this as a means for people to pre-order the book. Once the book is published I will be selling it myself. I’m not going to go through a distributor because I don’t want anyone to add extra costs to the book. I’m trying to get this to you as inexpensively as possible. So please, please don’t think of this as “Mission Accomplished.” The only thing that changes now is that I have the ability to produce a much more professional, and refined product for you. I’ll now be able to add color pictures in the book, I’ll be able to get a better binding for it…
I STILL WILL NOT BE COLLECTING A PROFIT OFF OF THIS..
So please, if you’re interested in the book..I implore you to pre-order. This is the safest, and easier way for you to pay for, and be certain that you will receive the book the SECOND I get it back from the publisher.
Thanks again everyone. I still can’t believe this.

Buckles enlisted in the Army at 16 after lying about his age.

Frank Woodruff Buckles (February 1, 1901 – February 27, 2011), born Wood Buckles, was the last surviving American veteran of World War I. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1917 and served with a detachment from Fort Riley, driving ambulances and motorcycles near the front lines in Europe.

During World War II, he was captured by Japanese forces while working in the shipping business, and spent three years in the Philippines as a civilian prisoner. After the war, Buckles married in San Francisco and moved to Gap View Farm near Charles Town, West Virginia. A widower at age 98, he worked on his farm until the age of 105.

In his last years, he was Honorary Chairman of the World War I Memorial Foundation. As chairman, he advocated the establishment of a World War I memorial similar to other war memorials in Washington, D.C.. Toward this end, Buckles campaigned for the District of Columbia War Memorial to be renamed the National World War I Memorial. He testified before Congress in support of this cause, and met with President George W. Bush at the White House.

Buckles was awarded the World War I Victory Medal at the conclusion of that conflict, and the Army of Occupation of Germany Medal retroactively following the medal’s creation in 1941, as well as the French Legion of Honor in 1999. His funeral was on March 15, 2011, at Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors.
